Medical-Grade Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy is Now Available in Central Indiana for Off-Label Indications

In recent years, hyperbaric oxygen therapy has been shown to treat all types of health challenges, not just those conditions approved by the FDA. The fundamental principles of cellular function provide the scientific basis: inflammation and mitochondrial dysfunction are components of most illnesses. Normal cellular processes are impaired by a limited oxygen supply, eventually leading to a decline in tissue and organ function.

Our cells have oxygen sensors that react to changes in oxygen pressure (PO2). There is a profound connection between PO2 and cellular adaptations. PO2 can vary by altering the pressure of the surrounding air, adjusting the proportion of oxygen inhaled, and the frequency and duration of exposure to these altered conditions. As PO2 changes, cells initiate adaptations. Most of these adaptations promote growth, repair, recovery, and regeneration of tissues.

HBOT treatments put patients in an environment of altered pressure, breathing 100% medical grade oxygen, at relatively frequent intervals. Simply put, the resulting hyperoxygenation increases stem cell production and mobilization, repairs damaged tissues throughout the body, reduces pro-inflammatory cytokine activity while simultaneously increasing anti-inflammatory cytokine activity, and causes angiogenesis.

Knowing whether and how quickly HBOT will work for your patient depends on many factors, including the nature and severity of their condition and their willingness to engage in the therapeutic process. HBOT is not a one-and-done treatment: it requires regular treatment sessions to stimulate the body to make healing changes.

We regularly monitor our patients for their response and progress and make adjustments to the oxygen dose and frequency of treatments as necessary.

There currently are 15 FDA-approved indications; these conditions are typically covered by insurance and your patient should be able to get treatment at a hospital. We treat almost exclusively off-label indications, which are self-pay. We can help patients explore their options and to explain these details.
